The ISYSA Committee
Board for the academic year 2013-2014: Giovanni Faonte, President: I am a 5th year PhD student in Mathematics at Yale. I was born in Campobasso, Molise. Before arriving to Yale, I got a Bachelor Degree at Università di Roma “La Sapienza” and I was a fellow student for the Master in Science carried jointly by Università deli Studi di Trieste and SISSA/IAS. My research is currently focused on Algebraic Geometry and Higher Category Theory. I am interested, besides Mathematics and Science, to Politics, Philosophy and Music. I like to carry on conversation with friends about those topics. Eleonora Buonocore, Secretary: I come from Siena, the city of the Palio, and I am a member of the “contrada” of the Giraffe! I came to the USA to do research for my PhD in Medieval Philosophy and decided to stay for an MA in Italian at the University of Notre Dame. I am now a 5th year Graduate Student in the Italian Department at Yale, working on Dante and Memory. I love anything Medieval, Poetry, Theatre, Film, and Mystery Novels… But I also enjoy karaoke and organizing social gatherings!
Michela Paganini, Treasurer. Silvia Ravera, Vice-President: I am from a small town not far from Torino, where I’ve got my Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry before enjoying chocolate and clocks in Zurich, where I graduated in Human Physiology. I am currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Pharmacology Department. Beside the lab you can find me in the gym, in a theater or somewhere else having fun with friends 😉 Giovanni Zito, Social Activities Coordinator: I come from Palermo, Sicily, where I took my BS in Biotechnology and my MS in Molecular Medicine. After my PhD at University of Palermo, I decided to move to the USA for the postdoc. Right now I am a third year postdoctoral fellow in the Genetics Department at the Yale School of Medicine, and I am studying the mechanisms that drive tumor regression. Other than the crazy scientist life, I like organizing social gatherings and try to connect all the people here at Yale who love the Italian culture. Sara Roccabianca, Cultural Activities Coordinator. Paolo Colombi, Scientific Activities Coordinator. Chiara Bellini, Welcoming Coordinator.
Former Presidents: Jacopo Anselmi (2007-2009) Diego Bertelli (2009-2011) Giovanni Lenguito (2011-2013)
