we have the pleasure to invite you for an informal open discussion about Science and Society in Italy: “Il coraggio di tornare a credere nella Scienza, in Italia”. The invited speaker is Professor Elena Cattaneo (Professor at University of Milan and Senatrice a vita della Repubblica italiana). The discussion will take place on Wednesday January 7th from 1 to 2:30 pm, in Sterling Hall of Medicine (SHM) – Room B145 , 33 Cedar st.
Dr. Cattaneo is Director of the “Laboratory of Stem Cell Biology and Pharmacology of Neurodegenerative Diseases” at the Department of Biosciences, University of Milan, and is co-founder and director of UniStem, the University of Milan’s Centre for Stem Cell Research.
In 2013 she was appointed as Senator for Life on account of her scientific and social merit.
Elena Cattaneo repeatedly participated in discussions about the relations between ethics and scientific progress, taking a stand in favor of freedom of scientific research.
Given the nature of the talk we encourage everyone (scientists and not) to participate.
Elena will also hold the scientific seminar: “Huntington from evolution to pathology”, organized by the School of Medicine, from 12 to 1 pm.
We hope to see you at the discussion.
